Some LGUs Declare Class Suspensions for Tuesday (October 1, 2024) Due to Super Typhoon Julian

WALANG PASOK – Several local government units have declared class suspensions due to the effects of Super Typhoon Julian.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration reported that Super Typhoon Julian has intensified and is moving towards Taiwan. It was spotted 205 kilometers west of Itabayat, Batanes.

Julian has maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour with gustiness of 230 kph. It has intensified and is moving towards Taiwan. Although it is heading northwest, the northern parts of the Philippines are still feeling its effects.

Class Suspensions

PAGASA has raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 3 over Batanes, while parts of Cagayan, Apayao, Abra, and Ilocos Norte are under Signal No. 1.

On Tuesday (October 1, 2024), several areas in Northern Luzon have suspended classes due to the impact of Super Typhoon Julian. The powerful storm has prompted local government units (LGUs) to cancel classes for the safety of students as it brings strong winds and heavy rainfall.

Class Suspensions

In Region I (Ilocos Region), classes at all levels are suspended in both public and private schools in:

  • Ilocos Norte
  • Ilocos Sur
  • La Union
  • Pangasinan
  • Dagupan City

In Region II (Cagayan Valley), the following areas have suspended classes:

  • Batanes: All levels (public and private)
  • Cagayan Province:
    • Allacapan, Amulung, Aparri, Lal-lo: All levels
    • Baggao, Camalaniugan, Gonzaga: Kindergarten to Senior High School

In Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), the following provinces have suspended classes:

  • Abra: All levels
  • Benguet: All levels
  • Baguio City: Preschool to Senior High School
  • Apayao: Kindergarten to Grade 12

The typhoon is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Thursday (October 3, 2024). Local authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and further announcements may be made based on weather conditions.
