Jeepney Drivers Caught Clashing Despite Having Passengers on Board
Two jeepney drivers in Caloocan caught the attention of authorities and the public for clashing despite having passengers on board.
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) are set to call in two drivers who were caught on video aggressively fighting for the road and even colliding with each other, all while carrying passengers.
The incident took place on Barugo Street in Camarin around 10 p.m. on Thursday (September 26, 2024). It reportedly started when one of the jeepneys tried to overtake the other.
Police Captain Joel Pinon, head of Caloocan Police Substation 11, explained that as one jeepney attempted to get ahead, it hit the back of the other, breaking its front light. The situation escalated when, near a gas station, the first vehicle rammed into the second one in retaliation.
“Pinipilit nitong unahan ito, pinipilit nitong si vehicle 2 na nangyari, nasagi niya yung likod at nabasag yung ano niya, ilaw sa harapan,” Pinon said.
Passengers from both vehicles were seen hurriedly disembarking in the video, clearly alarmed by the situation. The police have urged these passengers to file complaints, as the drivers’ actions endangered everyone on board. The sudden stop and panic could have easily led to accidents.
“Delikado po ito kasi makita natin na nataranta na yung mga tao sa pagbaba, so puwedeng maaksidente itong sakay nitong pasahero,” he added.
Both the LTO and LTFRB have issued show-cause orders to the drivers, and the jeepney operators will also be required to explain their drivers’ behavior. The drivers could face suspension or even lose their licenses depending on the investigation’s outcome.
The incident shows the dangers of reckless driving, especially for public transport, where passengers’ safety should always come first.
