Police Officer Dies After Being While Responding to Disturbance at Videoke Bar
A police officer lost his life after being shot while responding to a reported disturbance at a videoke bar in Pontevedra, Capiz.
On Monday (July 20, 2026), the victim was identified as Police Captain Rian Fuentes Ampoyos, 48, a member of the 1st Capiz Provincial Mobile Force Company. He was a resident of Barangay Swa in President Roxas, Capiz and was known for his service in maintaining peace and order in the province.
According to information gathered from the Pontevedra Municipal Police Station, several customers inside a videoke bar in Barangay Binuntucan reported a commotion that was causing concern among patrons.
In response, Police Captain Ampoyos and two fellow officers immediately went to the area to calm the situation and prevent it from escalating.
Upon arriving at the scene, the officers attempted to address the individuals involved in the disturbance. However, the situation suddenly turned violent when one of the people allegedly involved pulled out a firearm and opened fire.
Police Captain Ampoyos was struck in the head during the shooting. The responding officers and other individuals at the scene immediately rushed him to Bailan District Hospital for emergency treatment. Despite efforts to save his life, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Authorities identified the suspect as a 38-year-old man from Barangay Jolongajog, Pontevedra. He was quickly arrested at the scene following the shooting.
Police also recovered a .45-caliber pistol believed to have been used in the incident. The firearm was found with one remaining round of ammunition, while a magazine containing five additional rounds was also recovered.
Meanwhile, law enforcement authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the motive behind the attack. Police are also conducting a hot pursuit operation against two other individuals who are believed to have possible involvement in the incident.
