Gatchalian Reports Receiving Death Threats For Questioning Alice Guo

Sen. Win Gatchalian Reports Death Threats Over Inquiry into Bamban Mayor Alice Guo

GATCHALIAN – Senator Sherwin Gatchalian said he received death threats for probing Alice Guo.

Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian has turned to the police for assistance after receiving death threats, which he believes are linked to his active role in the Senate’s investigation into illegal Philippine offshore gaming operators (Pogos).

Gatchalian reported these threats to the Pasay City Police Station through a letter addressed to Police Major Benjamin Mandane, the substation commander. “I am writing to formally report an incident involving threats made against my life,” stated the senator in the letter dated July 4.

“These threats appear to be a consequence of my active participation investigation on the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (Pogo) connected to Mayor Alice Guo of Bamban and the Guo family,” Gatchalian said.

Mayor Guo is under investigation by the Senate Committee on women’s Affairs for her alleged involvement with illegal Pogos. She has been ordered arrested by the Senate for repeatedly failing to attend hearings.

Gatchalian shared that his staff informed him about a video circulating online that contained “explicit threats” to his safety and well-being.

“The creation and online dissemination of this video has caused me substantial concern for my security, as well as the safety of those around me, particularly my family and staff,” the politician said.

“In light of these serious threats, I formally request that the Pasay City Police initiate a police report on this matter and conduct a thorough investigation. I urge you to take swift action to ensure the safety of myself and those associated with me,” he added.

Based on the report, the video transcript attached to the letter alleges that Guo paid her men P10 million to silence Gatchalian and Sen. Risa Hontiveros, who has been leading the probe as head of the Senate Committee on Women.
