Police Authorities Arrested Two Men for Robbing Policeman’s House in Manila
Two men landed in jail after breaking into and stealing from the home of a police officer in Sampaloc, Manila.
The suspects used a hammer to break the padlock on the gate and gain entry into the police officer’s home on Marzan Street in Barangay 423. They have managed to steal two pairs of shoes and a basketball short worth around P10,000.
The theft was actually witnessed by the police officer himself, who was assigned at the Quezon City Police District, as it happened at his own home. The 18-year-old suspect was immediately cornered and apprehended by the cop, but his accomplice managed to escape.
Despite the officer giving chase on a motorcycle, the other suspect got away at first. CCTV footage from the barangay showed the man running down a street. A short while later, he was just casually walking around in Barangay 422.
Authorities conducted a follow-up operation and were eventually able to arrest the second suspect as well. The thieves claimed they only committed the theft to provide for their families. One of them stated, “Wala lang po kaming makain. Nagtitinda lang po kasi ng balut ang mama ko. Pinagsisisihan po naming.”
Both suspects are now in the custody of the Sampaloc Police Station, facing charges for the break-in and theft.
The incident has raised concerns about the security measures in place, especially considering the victim was a police officer whose home was targeted.
The incident also sparked discussions about the poverty and lack of opportunities that may drive some individuals to resort to criminal activities out of desperation.
