Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Surigao del Sur, June 17, 2024
EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.1 magnitude quake in Surigao del Sur today, June 17, 2024. Here are the details.
Following the 4.2 magnitude earthquake in Surigao del Norte earlier today, another significant quake was recently recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in its neighboring province. According to the agency, the quake recently hit Surigao del Sur and it has a magnitude of 4.1.
The earthquake today that struck Surigao del Sur, Monday, June 17, 2024, was tectonic in origin. A tectonic quake is a shaking which is a product when the Earth’s crust breaks because of the geological forces on the rocks and the adjoining plates which result to chemical and physical changes.
According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Surigao del Sur was located at 08.73°North, 126.50°East – 023 km South 70° East of Marihatag. It had a depth of focus of 028 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake neither aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, no intensity was recorded at the epicenter of the quake. No instrumental intensity was logged as well.
