President Marcos Declares June 17, 2024, a Regular Holiday In Observance of Eid’l Adha
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has declared Monday, June 17, 2024, as a regular holiday in observance of Eid’l Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice.
Eid’l Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is one of the most important Islamic holidays. It commemorates the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God.
God intervened and provided a ram to sacrifice instead, demonstrating mercy and faith. It is one of the two major Islamic festivals, the other being Eid’l Fitr.

Muslims around the world perform the act of Qurbani, or animal sacrifice, symbolizing Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son.
The sacrificed animal, usually a goat, sheep, cow, or camel, is divided into three parts: one part for the family, one part for relatives and friends, and one part for the less fortunate.
The holiday emphasizes the spirit of giving and sharing, with Muslims distributing meat to the needy. It is a time for community gatherings, festive meals, and celebrating with family and friends.

On June 4, 2024, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declared June 17, 2024, as a regular holiday in observance of Eid’l Adha.
This announcement was made through Proclamation No. 579, signed by Secretary Lucas Bersamin. The proclamation notes that Eid’l Adha is one of the two most significant feasts in Islam.
The declaration of the regular holiday on June 17, 2024, is based on the recommendation of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos, following the 1445 Hijrah Islamic Lunar Calendar.
