LTFRB Probes Viral Video of Bus Driver Playing Mobile Game While Driving

Viral Video of Bus Driver Playing Mobile Game While Driving Caught Attention of LTFRB

LTFRB is investigating a viral video involving a bus driver allegedly using his cellphone to play a mobile game while driving.

The video, sent by a concerned netizen to the Facebook page VISOR, shows the driver focused on playing a mobile game while the bus moves slowly and applies brakes before getting close to the bus ahead.

It’s unclear how long the driver was using his cellphone before the video was taken. According to the ticket shown in the video, the bus belongs to the Roval transport cooperative and originated from the PITX.

The driver, who was located at the PITX in the video, admitted to opening a social media app while driving but clarified that he wasn’t playing a game. He claimed to be stuck in line at the EDSA carousel stations on Roxas Boulevard, coming from EDSA Extension in Pasay.

“Ginanun ganun ko lng po sir, nakabukas ako sa COC (Clash of Clans) tinignan ko lang, traffic naman po sir mahaba po yung pila kasi tangahali inaantok mga pantanggal antok at inip, harapin ko naman sir,” explained the driver.

LTFRB Chairman Atty. Teofulo Guadiz clarified that using a cellphone while driving is prohibited. Employing individuals who fail to comply with regulations may result in the suspension of their franchise or license.

According to the LTFRB, they will summon both the driver and the bus company for an explanation. The driver may potentially face charges under the anti-distracted driving act.

The Anti-Distracted Driving Act or Republic Act No. 10913 is a Philippine law that prohibits distracted driving by restricting and penalizing the use of mobile phones and other electronic devices while driving on any public thoroughfare, highway, or street in the Philippines.
