Here’s the reason why Tirso Cruz III resigned from the position.
Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) chairman Tirso Cruz III has resigned from his position and this is the reason.
Veteran actor Tirso Cruz III was appointed as Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) chairman in July 2022. Tirso was appointed as FDCP chair and CEO by President Bongbong Marcos.
Despite his appointment, he stressed that he will not stop acting as this is his bread and butter.
After some years as FDCP chairman, the veteran actor resigned which was effective March 1, 2024. The resignation was approved by the Palace last week and reportedly, the officer-in-charge is Rica Arevalo, the head/project development officer of Film Education Division and OIC of Film Festivals Division.
According to the speculations after Cruz resigned, FDCP’s technical consultant Jose Javier Reyes will be his replacement. However, this is not confirmed yet.
Cruz’s resignation was due to personal reasons based on a report from ABS-CBN. Regarding the speculations about the replacement, Reyes expressed that it’s just “purely speculative”.
“There is no credibility because the Palace has not appointed Pip’s successor. Only the OIC has been approved by the board,” he said.
Tirso is one of the well-loved multi-awarded actors of the entertainment industry. He received awards from various award-giving bodies such as FAMAS, Gawad Urian, Golden Screen Awards, Star Awards For Movies, Metro Manila Film Festival, and Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival.
In terms of being a successful actor in terms of achievement, talent, and longevity in the industry, his advice is to be in competition of one’s self. Tirso shared that to become a successful actor, a senior actor he met before said, “Wag mong isipin na gusto mong talunin ‘yung kapwa mong artista. Ang talunin mo, ang sarili mo.”
He also makes sure to differentiate one character to another for some distinction. This is the challenge in being an actor. With the numerous roles given, it is sometimes hard to get out of the character an actor done before but with experience, distinction is made.
