3 Individuals in Quezon City Apprehended for Parcel-Snatching Scheme

Three individuals were arrested in Quezon City for their alleged involvement in a parcel-snatching scheme, targeting unsuspecting delivery riders.

The suspects are accused of conspiring a crime wherein they pose as customers, order items, and then forcibly take the parcels upon delivery.

According to the police, the modus operandi involved one of the suspects placing an order for perfume and planning its delivery. Upon the rider’s arrival, the suspect, engaged in a phone call, reportedly seized the parcel and declared a holdup.

CCTV footage captured the suspect quickly leaving the scene on foot. In another surveillance clip, the same individual was seen riding as a passenger on a waiting motorcycle, conspicuously holding something in his left hand.

Another motorcycle carrying two other men fled the area. Police Lieutenant Colonel Ferdinand Casiano, head of the Anonas Police Station, provided details on the incident.

“May nag-book sa kaniya na parcel na worth P3,000. So dineliver ng delivery rider doon sa area. Pagdating doon sa area ay may nag-aabang pala sa kaniya na grupo,” Casiano said.

“So inagaw sa kaniya ‘yung parcel, nagdeklara ng holdap,” he added.

Eventually, the police arrested three out of the four suspects involved. Investigations revealed that the group had a history of engaging in similar snatching activities, having been linked to three previous parcel-snatching incidents.

“Once na-deliver na ‘yung item, tatakutin nila ‘yung delivery rider, tatangayin ‘yung parcel na hindi nagbabayad. Kasi itong parcel ay cash on delivery pero wala namang aktuwal na bayarang mangyayari. Ang gagawin nila ay itatakbo nila ‘yung parcel,” Casiano explained.

The authorities seized the two motorcycles used by the suspects although the stolen parcel couldn’t be recovered. Two of the arrested individuals had previous records, with one having been jailed for drug-related charges and another facing a prior theft case.

The three suspects are set to face robbery charges in relation to the Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act. Meanwhile, authorities continue to locate the remaining suspect involved in the criminal activity.
