Woman in Pangasinan Allegedly Attacked by Debtor While Collecting Debt
MANGATAREM, PANGASINAN – A woman attempting to collect a debt was allegedly physically assaulted by the debtor.
The victim, identified as Fleda Pagarigan, 50 years old, reportedly sustained a head injury during the confrontation.
According to Pagarigan, the female debtor owes her and her family a huge amount, exceeding P400,000. Due to business losses, the debtor agreed to repay the debt in monthly installments of P2,000.
“Nagmakaawa po siya ibabalik ko ng ganito, siyempre ako maawain po ako ibinigay ko yung pera na ‘yon. Mga ilang araw siningil ko na iyon na wala na po, sila pang galit,” victim said.
As the debtor failed to make the agreed payments, a dispute ignited between the two, resulting in physical violence allegedly initiated by the debtor.
The victim also expressed dissatisfaction with the debtor’s father, who, instead of intervening to restrain his daughter, reportedly grabbed the victim, leaving her defenseless. Fortunately, someone else stepped in to assist the victim.
“Lumapit na naman ‘yung ama… imbes awatin ‘yung anak, bigla naman akong sinakal, hinawakan, siyempre hindi na ako makaano, nahihilo na ako, duguan na ako,” recounted the victim.
The suspect has been arrested and charged based on CCTV footage obtained by the authorities. Mangatarem Police Station head Police Major Arturo Melchor, Jr, confirmed that the footage showed the suspect physically assaulting the victim by pulling her hair and punching her.
The suspect has refused to give a statement regarding the incident. Legal actions are being pursued against her for the alleged assault.
