Portions of Northern Samar Submerged in Floodwaters, Residents Seek Help as Water Level Rises
Several parts of Northern Samar were submerged in floodwaters, the affected residents sought help as the water level continued to rise.
On Tuesday (November 21, 2023), the shear line brings relentless rainfall over the Visayas Region resulting in severe flooding in some parts of Northern Samar. Residents in affected areas are now reaching out for assistance as floodwaters continue to rise.
In Barangay Cagogobngan, located in the town of Catubig, floodwaters have risen to almost the second floor of homes. With no boats available, some residents resorted to swimming to reach higher ground. The situation is critical, and residents are urgently seeking help.
In the town of Catarman, residents are making desperate appeals for assistance as floodwaters have reached beyond roof levels.
Melanie Rosila, a resident of Barangay Ipil-ipil, shared her story of the water rising suddenly at 2 in the morning. The floodwaters surpassed their roof, forcing them to evacuate to a neighboring house with a higher elevation.
Concerns are growing as the rain continues, leading to a continuous rise in water levels. Rosila expressed heightened concern, especially for the children and infants in their community. To ensure the safety of the baby, they placed the child in a basin while crossing the flooded area.
Tragically, even the mourning area where a deceased relative lay at rest was not spared from the floodwaters. Adding to the concern, some residents are reportedly trapped in their homes, but rescue efforts are hampered due to the strong current of the flood.
The flooding crisis reached the downtown proper in Catarman, where vehicles have been submerged as water levels continue to rise.
