Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Davao Occidental, August 21, 2023

EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.3 magnitude quake in Davao Occidental today, August 21, 2023.

Following the 4.0 magnitude earthquake that hit Cagayan earlier today, another significant quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in another province. The quake hit Davao Occidental. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 4.3.

Earthquake Today

The earthquake today that struck Davao Occidental, Monday, August 21, 2023, at 10:54 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Jose Abad Santos in Davao Occidental.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Davao Occidental was located at 05.16°North, 127.48°East – 220 km South 68° East of Jose Abad Santos. It had a depth of focus of 159 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, no intensity was recorded at the epicenter of the quake as well as the nearby areas. As of this writing, no instrumental intensity was recorded as well.
