PAGASA Says Habagat to Bring Scattered Rainshowers Over Parts of the Country

PAGASA LATEST UPDATE – The state weather bureau reported that the southwest monsoon will bring scattered rain over parts of the country.

On Saturday (August 12, 2023), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. The southwest monsoon will affect the country’s weather conditions.

Habagat will bring cloudy weather conditions with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Visayas, Mindanao, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, and the northern portion of Palawan.

The southwest monsoon and localized thunderstorms will bring cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over Palawan including Kalayaan Islands, and Occidental Mindoro as well as Metro Manila and remaining parts of the country.

The southwest monsoon is a typical wind pattern that moves moist air over the Philippines from the Indian Ocean. It is a seasonal phenomenon that usually occurs between the months of May and October.

This wind system is distinguished by its southwestward travel, and when it approaches the archipelago, it mixes with the warm and humid local air, causing rain clouds to form.

While these rain showers are generally beneficial for agriculture and water resources, there is also a potential downside.

The weather bureau warned the residents in the affected areas to take precautionary measures for possible flash floods and landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains and severe thunderstorms.
