Tito Sotto revealed what pushed them to decide to leave TAPE
Veteran showbiz personality Tito Sotto narrated what happened on May 31, 2023, on Eat Bulaga, the day they announced that they are departing from TAPE Inc.
Tito, along with Vic Sotto and Joey de Leon, appeared on social media live stream and made an important announcement. That day, Eat Bulaga’s avid viewers were wondering why old videos were being shown.
Following that viral announcement of their decision to cut ties with Jalosjos-owned production company, Tito spoke.
In a video posted on PEP’s YouTube Channel, the former Senate President narrated what happened on that fateful day.
Tito Sotto said that day, although he does not usually goes to the studio on Wednesdays, he went because they were supposed to have a meeting for the possible next step that they will do. He stressed that the reason that pushed them to have a meeting was the things promised by the management that are not fulfilled.
Tito said that initially they were told that EB’s employees’ salaries will be deducted 10 percent but he pointed out that when they were calculating, it turned out that there were those who were deducted 70 percent while some 30 percent.
“Wala sa lugar, wala sa hulog eh,” he said. They were also told that the show is not gaining profit but they found out that a stockholder would get advance payment and they are suspecting it was Romy Jalosjos. With this, they wanted to have a meeting.
By 11 or 11:30 AM, they were already discussing, Tito said that Soraya Jalosjos, the daughter of Romy, was there and apparently, she was nervous that they might do something. Then, the live airing of Eat Bulaga was canceled. They were told that it was Romy who ordered to just air playback.
That triggered the hosts and staff members to decide abruptly. “Nagdesisyong na kami, ano pa ang hinihintay namin?” Tito said. He added that it was the instant reaction that they had at that time because they were not allowed to have a live broadcast.
“Ganoon ang trato nila eh. Parang sila ang may ari sa amin eh, nakakapikon na eh,” he said. Tito also shared that they decided to use Maine Mendoza’s Facebook page with 18 million followers to do a live stream, as well as the social media pages of Eat Bulaga which their group still owns.
