5-Year-Old Child Allegedly Held at Hospital After Mother Posted Complaint Online Due to Poor Treatment
A 5-year-old child was allegedly held a Bataraza District Hospital after his mother posted a complaint on social media.
A mother working abroad shared her concern on social media after her five-year-old child was brought to Bataraza District Hospital in Palawan and allegedly received poor treatment during the visit.
The mother, identified as Lorna from Barangay Inugbog in Bataraza, said the incident happened on February 28, 2026. Since she is currently working in Saudi Arabia, it was her sister-in-law who accompanied the child to the hospital.

According to Lorna, her child had swelling in the mouth and was already having difficulty eating. Because of this, the family decided to bring the child to the hospital for medical attention.
The mother said her sister-in-law reportedly experienced unpleasant treatment from a nurse who attended them at the hospital. It was said that the nurse asked why the child was not brought to the hospital earlier since their home was close to the medical facility.
The mother also explained that the situation happened on a Saturday and there was no available driver for the hospital vehicle at the time, which made it harder for them to bring the child immediately.

Later on, a doctor was able to check the child. According to the doctor’s assessment, the child did not need to be admitted to the hospital. The doctor reportedly noted that the child had a high platelet count and there was suspicion of dengue.
Instead of admission, the child was given a prescription for medicine and allowed to go home. Despite this, the mother said she felt worried about her child’s condition. For her, the child was not thoroughly examined and should have been admitted because the child was already weak.
The woman admitted that she now feels hesitant to bring her child back to the same hospital if urgent medical care is needed in the future.
She also shared that she posted about the incident on social media to express her concern. However, she later decided to delete the post after allegedly being told that the child could only go home if the post was removed, and that legal action might be taken if it remained online.
The mother is now hoping that the concerns she raised will lead to improvements in how patients and their families are treated in the hospital so that other families will not go through the same experience.
