Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake in Northern Samar, April 9, 2023

EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 3.9 magnitude quake in Mapanas, Northern Samar, Sunday, April 9, 2023.

Following the 7.3 magnitude earthquake that jolted a part of Davao Occidental a few weeks ago, another strong quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a part of Northern Samar. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 3.9.

The earthquake that struck Northern Samar, Sunday, April 9, 2023, at 07:39 p.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Mapanas.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Northern Samar was located at 3.02°North, 125.51°East – 066 km North 24° East of Mapanas with a depth of focus of 086 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. No intensity as well as instrumental intensity was recorded by the quake-monitoring agency as per its release.
