ICI Operates Without Budget, Relies on Contingent Funds While Waiting for Fund’s Approval

Spox of ICI Speaks on their Budget Amid the Flood Control Probe

ICI – The Independent Commission for Infrastructure claimed it operates without budget and currently relies on contingent funds.

The supposed multi-billion flood control corruption in the Philippines brought countless Filipinos to the streets to protest last September 21. Several celebrities in the showbiz industry even joined the rally dubbed as the “Trillion Peso March”.

Currently, the Independent Commission for Infrastructure is investigation the supposed flood control corruption. The ICI was created upon the order of Pres. Bongbong Marcos. It is a three-member body led by former Supreme Court Justice Andres Reyes Jr.

Aside from the flood control hearings that invited several government officials linked to the issue, ICI held an inter-agency meeting over the flood control mess. According to the commission, it is important the government agencies work together to get back the money corrupted through the flood control projects.

ICI chairman Andres Reyes Jr. claimed that ‘justice will not be delayed this time’. They have already submitted a report suggesting for the filing of charges against some individuals linked to the flood control issue to the Office of the Ombudsman.

Amid its flood control investigation, ICI spokesman Brian Hosaka told One News’ storycon that the commission allegedly operations without funds now. According to him, they currently rely on contingent funds while waiting for their budget’s approval.

“For now, we rely on contingent funds while waiting for our budget to be approved,” Hosaka said.

ICI spokesman Brian Hosaka stressed that they started from zero but they are doing their best. Based on a report on PhilStar, he recognized the people’s expectation from them.

“We started from zero, no machinery, no staffing and no budget, but we are doing the best we can despite these limitations. We know what the people expect from us. We’re also not happy with what’s happening, but we will deliver on our mandate,” the ICI spox said.

Based on the report, despite that the members of the commission are appointees of Pres. Bongbong Marcos, ICI spokesman Brian Hosaka claimed that the independence of the commission allegedly remains intact. Amid the issue, Marcos Jr. previously spoke on holding the flood control culprits accountable.
