Earthquake: 4.9 Magnitude Quake Rocks Abra

Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake in Abra, March 26, 2023

EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.9 magnitude quake in San Isidro, Abra, Sunday night, March 26, 2023.

Following the 7.3 magnitude earthquake that jolted a part of Davao Occidental a few weeks ago, another strong quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a part of Abra. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 4.9.

The earthquake that struck Abra, Sunday, March 26, 2023, at 08:38 p.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit San Isidro.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Abra was located at 17.49°North, 120.57°East – 004 km North 55° West of San Isidro with a depth of focus of 012 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are expected from the said quake but there may be no aftershocks. The following intensities were recorded in these areas:

    • Baguio City, Baguio
    • Itogon, Kapangan, and Kibungan, Benguet
    • Batac City, Ilocos Norte
    • Cabugao, Magsingal, San Ildefonso, San Juan, Santa Cruz, Santa Lucia, Sinait, and Tagudin, Ilocos Sur
  • Intensity III
    • Licuan-Baay, Abra
    • Atok, Bakun, Buguias, and Mankayan, Benguet
    • Bauko, and Tadian, Mountain Province
    • Bantay, City of Candon, Caoayan, San Vicente, Santa Catalina, and Santiago, Ilocos Sur
  • Intensity IV
    • Bangued, Bucloc, Dolores, La Paz, Lacub, Lagangilang, Lagayan, Luba,
      Malibcong, Pidigan, Pilar, San Isidro, San Quintin, Tayum, Tineg, Tubo, and Villaviciosa, Abra
    • Besao, Sadanga, and Sagada, Mountain Province
    • Banayoyo, Burgos, Galimuyod, Lidlidda, Nagbukel, Narvacan, Quirino, San Emilio, San Esteban, Santa, Sigay, Sugpon, and City of Vigan, Ilocos Sur
  • Intensity V
    • Bucay, Abra
