NBI Arrested Woman Over Annulment Processing Scam in Quezon City

The personnel of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested a woman for an annulment processing scam in Quezon City.

The National Bureau of Investigation’s Cybercrime Section apprehended a lady who allegedly offered annulment processing in exchange for money. According to a report this Thursday, the NBI conducted a sting operation at a restaurant in Fairview, Quezon City, to arrest the suspect in response to the Supreme Court’s request.

NBI Cybercrime Division Chief Jeremy Lotoc stated that the NBI received a letter from our Supreme Court’s Chief Justice himself requesting assistance. There are persons circulating online offering non-appearance, and annulment, Lotoc explained.

The suspect allegedly offered to handle the annulment for P20,000 in exchange for bogus annulment documents and templates received from the court. According to the study, at least 12 people have been victimized.

He was accused of computer-related forgery, Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) violations, and estafa. The defendant, on the other hand, apologized to the Chief Justice, claiming that he was obliged to commit the fraud due to life’s difficulties.

According to the report of GMA News, more than 5,536 annulment lawsuits were filed at the Office of the Solicitor General between 2009 and 2022. One to two years before the court’s ruling.

Check and double verify; it is preferable if people know the individual with whom you are trading personally, stated Lotoc. The National Bureau of Investigation’s cybercrime division invited victims to visit their offices for assistance in submitting new complaints.
