Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Negros Oriental, March 1, 2023

EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.2 magnitude quake in Negros Oriental, Wednesday, March 1, 2023.

Following the 7.3 magnitude earthquake that jolted a part of Davao Occidental a few weeks ago, another strong quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a part of Negros Oriental. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 4.2.

The earthquake that struck Negros Oriental, Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at 11:14 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Basay.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Negros Oriental was located at 09.04°North, 122.34°East – 053 km South 39° West of Basay with a depth of focus of 022 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. Nol intenstity was felt as per the bulletin released by the quake-monitoring agency. Instrumental Intensity I was recorded in the following areas:

  • Sibulan, Negros Oriental
  • Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte
  • Argao City, Cebu
