Solon Alarmed with the Rising Cases of Stabbing Involving Students
Solon expresses alarm with the increasing number of stabbing incidents involving students inside their school.
Angelica Natasha Co, the chairperson of the House Committee on Welfare of Children and BHW party-list Rep, is concerned about the growing number of stabbings involving students in or near schools.
Co-appeal to the Departments of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Education (DepEd), Interior and Local Government (DILG), and Justice (DOJ) to form a joint task force to take steps to ensure the safety of schools and students.
“This stabbing incident cannot be just an isolated incident because there have been many other fatal stabbings and violent acts involving students and also teachers,” said Co.
Based on the report, the most recent incident reported involved a 15-year-old student stabbing a 13-year-old classmate in Quezon City. Co also mentioned a student stabbed by a teacher in Samar, a 14-year-old stabbed by six minors in Quezon City, two minors stabbed by fellow students in Cauayan City, and a 15-year-old stabbed in Bacolod City.
“One problem here is, after the initial outrage and grieving lasting a few days, the incidents and assaults are forgotten as if they did not happen,” she said.
Co added. “It is high time that these agencies make sure there are case follow-ups and a continuing database of cases should be maintained.”
