Earthquake Today: 3.5 Magnitude Quake Hits Southern Leyte

Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Southern Leyte, January 2, 2023

EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Phivolcs recorded a 3.5 magnitude earthquake in Southern Leyte, Monday, January 2, 2023.

Following the 4.3 magnitude earthquake that jolted Maguindanao del Norte a few days ago, another strong quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a part of Surigao del Sur. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 3.5.

The earthquake that struck Southern Leyte today, January 2, 2023, was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Silago at 05:52 a.m.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Southern Leyte was located at 10.51°North, 125.27°East – 012 km South 82° East of Silago with a depth of focus of 010 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that no damages are expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the agency, no intensity as well as instrumental intensity were recorded of the said quake that hit Southern Leyte.
