MISS UNIVERSE 2022 – Here are some things you might want to know about the Miss Universe 2022 beauty pageant which is set to be held in Louisiana, US.
Among the most highly-coveted beauty pageants in the world is Miss Universe and the reigning queen is Harnaaz Sandhu of India. She was crowned at Eliat, Israel, where last year’s pageant was held. This was India’s first time again to have the crown after the 20-year title drought.
In her reign, Harnaaz focused on launching “a new coalition for menstrual equity in her home country of India”. She advocates safe menstrual care in India and around the world by making ways to increase awareness and pave the way to access low-cost, sustainable, and proven solutions to improve the lives of women.
And the next pageant will be on January 14, 2023, in New Orleans where close to 90 delegates have already signed up. The pageant will mark its 71st year. The coronation was postponed in order to avoid conflict with the Fifa World Cup event. This means that next year, two queens will likely be crowned.
Online voting is also now ongoing where the candidate who will get the highest number of votes will automatically qualify for a spot in the semifinals of the live pageant.
Meanwhile, in the pageant’s history, Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi of South Africa was the one who held the crown and title for 525 days. This is because of the pandemic that made the pageants of the last two years canceled.
She passed the crown to her successor Andrea Meza from Mexico in May last year which made Meza’s reign to be the shortest. She reigned for 211 days only.
