Woman Wants to End Life after Harassed by Stepson and Husband’s Friends
A woman who was allegedly harassed by her stepson and the friends of her husband asks permission from the president to end her life.
A woman from Uttar Pradesh wrote to President Draupadi Murmu asking for permission to be put down via euthanasia since her stepson and her husband’s friends had been abusing them for months. The 30-year-old claimed in her letter that she was no longer hopeful that the case would result in justice.

She said that despite a report being submitted at the Puranpur Kotwali police station on October 9 and despite court orders, police had purposefully neglected to apprehend any of the defendants. She added that the accused had been repeatedly threatening to kill her and urging her to remain silent.
“I have struggled enough and don’t think I will get any justice. So, I want to end my life with your permission,” she wrote in the letter addressed to the president.
Based on the report, the woman claimed that three years ago, she wed a Chandigarh-based farmer who was 55 years old and divorced. She claims that her stepson first made contact with her in April and that ever since then, he has regularly abused her sexually.
She first had to keep quiet since the stepson had warned her of “consequences.” She said that when she got pregnant and tried to get a DNA test, the accused brutally assaulted her in the stomach.
Later, she was made to get an abortion at a Puranpur private hospital. The woman said that on July 18, she was brought to a property owned by her husband’s friend and raped by one of his family members as well as two other people.
Her written complaints to the neighborhood police and higher-ups were ignored. She had no other option than to go to court, where the judge instructed the police to file a First Information Report (FIR) on the incident.
Recently, the Puranpur Kotwali police station issued a FIR, and five males, including her husband and stepson, were arrested for violating IPC sections 504 (intentional insult), 323 (voluntarily causing harm), and 376-D (gang r6pe) (criminal intimidation). There were no arrests made, though.
