Health officials said on Friday that a total of four people had passed away from the extremely deadly Ebola virus in Uganda, where the outbreak was officially proclaimed earlier this week.
Based on the report of GMA News that, the health ministry announced that “three further deaths were detected,” bringing the total to four after the nation’s first death from the illness since 2019 was confirmed on Tuesday.
The report also mentioned that, four more illnesses were verified in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 11, according to the authorities.
It wasn’t immediately apparent if the four fatalities were included in the 11 cases. The ministry stated that 19 additional people who were possibly infected with Ebola were receiving medical care in a hospital.
“The Ministry of Health Rapid Response Teams remain on ground to list and follow up contacts to the confirmed cases,”

The initial victim tested positive for the relatively uncommon Sudan virus strain.
The WHO reports that the Sudan strain has already caused seven outbreaks, including four in Uganda and three in Sudan. With a porous border with the DRC, Uganda has seen a number of Ebola outbreaks, with the most recent being in 2019 and resulting in at least five fatalities.
A fresh case of the disease was reported in the DRC’s violent east last month, less than six weeks after the outbreak in the northwest of the country was declared over.
