Vhong Navarro insisted on his innocence
It’s Showtime host Vhong Navarro reacted to the rape case filed against him by Taguig City Prosecutor’s Office over the alleged rape that model-stylist Deniece Cornejo claimed happened in 2014.
In 2018, the Department of Justice (DOJ) junked the rape case against the actor-host. However, in July this year, the Court of Appeals (CA) ordered the Taguig prosecutors to file a case against Vhong.
In line with this issue, Atty. Alma Mallonga, the legal counsel of the actor-host, stressed that the model-stylist swore twice that there was no rape that happened. The lawyer said that this was what Deniece said in her sworn statement.
However, on September 2, reports circulated the Taguig City Prosecutor’s Office has filed the rape case against Vhong Navarro. In an interview with ABS-CBN, his home network, the noontime show host insisted on his innocence.
He said that back then, the only mistake that he did was cheating on his girlfriend at that time Tanya Bautista who is now his wife. “Nilahad ko ‘yong storya ko at ‘yon lahat ang katotohanan,” he said.
Vhong also stressed that all the accusations against him are lies. “Ako ay nagsasabi ng totoo at alam ng Panginoon ‘yon na nagsasabi ako ng totoo,” the actor-host said.
Atty. Mallonga admitted that this surprised them because the case was already dismissed multiple times. She also stressed that the DOJ did not act arbitrarily or with hostility in dismissing the charges against the Kapamilya star.
Vhong Navarro’s lawyer also said that the justice department was not wrong when it dismissed the rape case against him. “It’s an afterthought, it’s incredible, and as correctly found by the Department of Justice, it is not consistent with human behavior,” Atty. Mallonga added.
