The camp of Vhong Navarro answered allegations from Deniece Cornejo
Atty. Alma Mallonga, the legal counsel of actor-host Vhong Navarro, insisted that model Deniece Cornejo swore that she was not raped.
It has been eight years since the issue between Vhong and Deniece started. In July 2022, the Court of Appeals ordered Taguig City’s Office of Prosecutor to file rape and acts of lasciviousness cases against the It’s Showtime host even though the Department of Justice has already junked the cases against him in 2018.
Previously, the legal counsel of Vhong has expressed that they will file a motion for reconsideration to reverse the decision of CA.
In a recent report from PEP, Atty. Mallonga stressed that the cases against the actor have been junked several times due to “inconsistencies” in Deniece’s statements. The City Prosecutor of Taguig, Office of the Prosecutor General, at Office of the Secretary of the Department of Justice junked the allegations against Vhong Navarro.
The lawyer also insisted that the model stated in her sworn statement twice that the actor-host did not rape her. A portion of Deniece’s statement was cited by Vhong’s lawyer:
“She states: ‘He tried to insist that I let him stay longer (in the condo) and even made jokes about sleeping over… I told him, ‘No, di puwede talaga,’ so finally he conceded… Thereafter, Kuya Vhong left my unit by himself.'”
The second time when Deniece said that she was not raped was in the “petition dated February 4, 2014, filed with the court.” She maintained that she was not raped on January 17 and that Vhong left her unit alone. The lawyer stressed that the Complaint-Affidavit and Petition of Deniece were under oath and were done with her counsel assisting her.
In the second meeting of Deniece and Vhong on January 22, 2014, they have different statements. The model accused the actor-host of raping her. Vhong said that after the male friends of Deniece tied him, he was blindfolded and beaten up.
The lawyer of Vhong Navarro also insisted on the inconsistency in Deniece Cornejo’s claim.
“MS. CORNEJO CHANGED HER STORY ONLY AFTER MR. VHONG NAVARRO FILED A COMPLAINT AGAINST HER AND MR. CEDRIC LEE FOR SERIOUS ILLEGAL DETENTION AND OTHER CRIMES AND SHE WAS REQUIRED TO SUBMIT HER COUNTER-AFFIDAVIT.
Atty. Mallonga also highlighted that the CCTV footage that they presented as evidence showed that there was no sign that Deniece was raped. She also said that it was rape but a set-up. The lawyer said that the actor-host was illegally detained and received physical abuse to force him to admit to the crime.
