Orina Police Station Chief Police Major Larry Valencia assumed that the victim possibly pulled the trigger while cleaning his service firearm. The cops also found cleaning supplies for firearms at the scene.

Valencia explained that cops are allowed to clean their service firearms in residential areas given that there are no individuals that may be injured. However, proper procedures need to be observed at all times.

“Posibleng nakalabit itong gatilyo kasi nakita namin sa scene may mga panlinis ng baril kaya ang suspetsa namin itong si Major Rubio ay naglilinis ng baril,” Valencia said.

The police officer also described Rubio as a kind and helpful person. The family, friends, and fellow workers of the victim were currently grieving his untimely death.

Valencia also advised gun holders to observe safety protocols and to be more careful in handling service firearms to avoid similar incidents.
