Hipon Girl Fulfills Dream of Wearing Darna Costume on 23rd Birthday
HIPON GIRL – Kapuso comedian-beauty queen Hipon Girl channeled her inner ‘Darna’ as she marked her 23rd birthday on Tuesday.
Mars Ravelo and artist Nestor Redondo created the Filipino superheroine ‘Darna.’ The character has undergone substantial adaptation and has also been depicted in various media, including movies and television shows.
Several actresses, including Rosa del Rosario, Liza Moreno, Eva Montes, Gina Pareño, Vilma Santos, Lorna Tolentino, Rio Locsin, Sharon Cuneta, Nanette Medved, Anjanette Abayari, Regine Velasquez, Angel Locsin, Marian Rivera and Jane De Leon have played Darna in films and TV shows.
Darna typically wears a red helmet with a gold winged medallion set with rubies, red boots, a red bikini or shorts with a gold star in each brassiere cap, gold bracelets, a golden medallion belt with a loincloth in the center, and red clothing. Darna’s appearance is recognizable and iconic.
She stands up for individuals who are unable to defend themselves. She fights against common criminals as well as more powerful evil forces, such as the notorious snake-haired supervillain Valentina. Darna is often accompanied by her younger brother Ding.
Binibining Pilipinas 2022 first runner-up Herlene “Hipon Girl” Budol is among the celebrities who dream to portray Darna. During her 23rd birthday celebration in August. 23, she ticked off an item on her bucket list as she got to wear the costume of the Pinay superhero.

In a post on her Instagram account last August 24, Hipon Girl looked stunning in the red-and-gold two-piece costume. It was inspired by what Kapuso Primetime Queen Marian Rivera wore during her stint as Darna in 2009.
The comedian-beauty queen also released a new Youtube vlog where she could be seen performing as the Pinay superhero. At the beginning of the vlog, she disclosed that it is her dream to follow Marian’s footsteps.
“Pangarap ko kasi maging Darna dati kasi pangarap kong maging si Marian Rivera kahit hindi naman kami hawig. Sa panaginip lang. So, sabi ko kay Sir Wilbert, ‘Mima, gusto kong sundan ‘yung yapak ni Marian Rivera bilang GMA artist naman ako, bilang GMA sparkle family na po ako, gusto ko pong sundan si Marian Rivera tapos makapangasawa din ako ng mala-Dingdong,’” Hipon said.
Hipon Girl then showed a scene showing her acting as Narda along with someone who portrayed Valentina. She later performed her song “Gandang Hipon” while wearing the Darna costume.
