A director had an argument with Donnalyn Bartolome because of the particular scene
Vlogger Donnalyn Bartolome refused to do this scene in an episode of Wattpad Presents, director Joselito “Jay” Altarejos revealed.
Donnalyn is a hot topic on social media these past few days because of her kanto-themed birthday party. She received a massive amount of bashing as there were netizens who believed that she was romanticizing poverty in her vlog while there were those who said that she is using the “poor” as content in which she can earn a lot.
However, Donnalyn defended her intentions of doing that birthday. She stressed that she is just simply looking back at where she started when she can’t afford yet to buy expensive things. To recall, even Supreme Court Justice Marvic Leonen lambasted her, however, he deleted his tweet about it.
This issue apparently is not yet over because Direk Jay Altarejos has recently shared his reaction as well to this. He slammed the “tutong cake” Donnalyn Bartolome, based on the article in Manila Bulletin.
“Mali na ginagawang content ang kahirapan. Hindi naman aesthetics ang poverty. Walang nagsisi-celebrate na tutong ang cake. Tigilan ako Donnalyn!” the filmmaker said.
Direk Jay also shared that he worked with the celebrity vlogger in a TV episode in Wattpad Presents. He said that he and Donnalyn had an argument. It was because she refused to do a kissing scene even though it was written on the script that was sent to her prior to the shoot.
The director also stressed that he is calling the attention of influencers like Donnalyn to be more cautious of what they are featuring as content. “Hindi naman esthetics ang poverty, hindi choice ang poverty. Kayo ba gusto nyong magising isang araw na naghihirap kayo? Walang matinong tao na gustong maging mahirap and you just make it into a theme? Poverty is poverty, it is a social condition,” Direk Jay stressed.
He also challenged Donnalyn Bartolome to go to the Baseco compound in Tondo, where Smokey Mountain is located, the home of the ‘poorest of the poor’ in Manila.
