The United States Department of State has formally requested the extradition of Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, and Senator Risa Hontiveros has this statement.
The founder of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, was requested by the United States Department of State for extradition. US authorities want Quiboloy extradited “as soon as possible” to face criminal proceedings in the United States.
The request was formally transmitted through diplomatic channels and is now subject to the Philippine government’s extradition procedures. This formal request is in connection with the criminal charges filed against the Filipino televangelist in the United States.
The development comes while Quiboloy remains detained in the Philippines. As for the formal extradition request, the Philippine government will have to evaluate and process the request according to applicable laws and procedures.
Reacting to the recent developments is Senator Risa Hontiveros, saying this is long overdue. In a statement, Hontiveros expressed support for the US extradition request and emphasized the need for Quiboloy to face the allegations against him.
Stressing that it’s about time he faces the charges against him, she further said, “He trafficked women and girls from around the world. Justice demands that he answer for these crimes in the very places he committed them.”
As Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations, and Gender Equality, she expressed relief that two jurisdictions are seeking to hold him accountable for alleged crimes against women and girls.
“Wala na siyang dapat matirang kahit katiting na impluwensya dito sa Pilipinas,” Hontiveros also said, and argued that Quiboloy’s continued presence in the Philippines remains a concern because of its potential impact on survivors who have come forward with allegations against him.
