Bongbong Marcos Meets w/ PH Officials To Discuss ICC Probe

Pres. Bongbong Marcos, Gov’t Officials Talk about Investigation of ICC on PH Drug War

BONGBONG MARCOS – The President met with some of the key officials in the government to discuss the International Criminal Court (ICC) probe.

One of the staunch campaigns of the Duterte administration is the war against illegal drugs in the country. Back when he was still a presidential candidate, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte promised the Filipinos to clean the country from drugs in six months.

A landslide victory placed Duterte in the highest position in the government. However, six (6) months passed and drugs are still present in the country. The former Chief Executive admitted that he might have miscalculated the extent of drugs in the country.

Several drug personalities were arrested and laboratories were uncovered. However, the government’s campaign was linked to the deaths of a lot of people and it caught the attention of the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The ICC wants to conduct an investigation regarding the anti-drugs campaign in the Philippines. However, the probe was not launched during the Duterte administration.

Recently, Pres. Bongbong Marcos met with some officials of the Philippine government to discuss about the country’s stand on the ICC probe. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the President met with chief presidential legal counsel Juan Ponce Enrile, executive secretary Vic Rodriguez, solicitor general Menardo Guevarra, justice secretary Boying Remulla, foreign affairs secretary Enrique Manalo, DFA legal affairs chief Domingo Nolasco, and former presidential spokesman Harry Roque.

According to Roque, Pres. Bongbong Marcos chose him as the private council regarding the talks about the ICC probe. Solicitor general Menardo Guevarra said that the only they talked about was the position of the government on the ICC investigation. Meanwhile, none of them disclosed the stand of Malacañang as of now. As to justice secretary Boying Remulla, in his own opinion, the ICC has no jurisdiction over the Philippines.
