Jeepney Driver Earns P300 Take-Home Pay for Family Due to Rising Pump Prices

A poor jeepney driver earns only P300 take-home pay for his family after 18 hours of work due to increasing fuel prices.

Oil prices play a very important role in the country’s economy. The increasing prices of petroleum products including gasoline, diesel, and kerosene causes a significant impact on the prices of products and services in the country.

The consecutive oil price hike over the past few months contributes to the daily burden of Filipino people especially those who were using public vehicles for a living and to individuals using private vehicles to reach their point of destination.

A jeepney driver named Artemio Singko has expressed his frustration after earning only P300 after 18 hours of work. He expressed his disappointment due to the surging prices of petroleum products.

Tatay Artemio narrated that he spend P2, 500 worth of diesel on Monday (June 20). He only earns a little amount of cash despite spending a lot of time at work makes him frustrated and hopeless.

The hardworking man will temporarily stop working after oil companies impose an additional hike of P3.00 per liter of diesel on Tuesday (June 21). Singko’s debt also increased due to the consecutive weeks of hikes.

Singko also failed to pay his bills for the monthly installment of his jeepney.

Numerous drivers in Santa Rosa, Laguna have expressed their sentiments due to the rising oil prices. Some of them even failed to pay their electric and water bill.
