Will President-Elect Bongbong Marcos Jr.’s Admin Tackle the Pending Corruption Cases?
BONGBONG MARCOS – The camp of the president-elect spoke on the fate of the pending corruption cases in the government under his administration.
The 17th president of the Republic of the Philippines has been proclaimed. President-elect Bongbong Marcos will succeed outgoing Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte whose term ends on noontime of June 30, 2022. He made a huge lead of over 16 million votes in the 2022 Presidential Election.
Marcos’ campaign slogan calls for the country’s recovery from all the problems it is facing through “unity”. His presidential bid is undeniably one of the most controversial presidential candidacies that faced several petitions of cancellation and disqualification.
The presidential bid of Marcos triggered the issues surrounding Martial Law, his family’s alleged ill-gotten wealth, and his tax cases. All petitions were junked by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Previously, Marcos Jr. stressed that he is inclined to “forget the past”. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the president-elect also previously expressed in a press conference that he wants to forget incidents of corruption that did not happen under his term.
Recently, president-elect Bongbong Marcos’ camp spoke anew with regard to the pending corruption cases. Based on the report, incoming press secretary Trixia Cruz-Angeles expressed that pending corruption cases in the government will still be tackled under the Marcos admin.
Angeles stressed that the cases are on the pending status and she believes that the approach of the president-elect means not focusing too much on “fault finding or on sins of the past”.
“We will probably require a more clear or precise policy on this one since he was just freely speaking his mind this morning,” the incoming press secretary said based on the report.
The camp of Marcos Jr. has yet to speak on his inauguration. Previously, his camp expressed that they will only start planning after the proclamation of the presumptive president. The proclamation was recently held at the House of Representatives and Marcos Jr.’s family was present to witness it.
