Blind Man Sustained Injuries After Falling Into Unfinished Drainage Project

A blind man was injured after falling into an unfinished drainage project along F.B. Harrison Street in Pasay City. 

Based on CCTV footage from Barangay 73 Zone 10, A visually impaired man was seen crossing the street when he unknowingly approached the open drainage excavation along F.B. Harrison Street in Pasay City.  

Since there were reportedly no barriers or warning signs in the area, he failed to notice the hazard and fell directly into the pit.

People nearby immediately rushed to help the man. Concerned residents and barangay personnel quickly assisted him out of the excavation site. He was then brought to a hospital for medical attention with the help of local officials. 

According to barangay representatives, the victim complained of pain in his shoulder and head after the fall. Because of his injuries, he agreed to be taken to the hospital for further examination and treatment.

 project had allegedly been left without proper barriers for nearly a week before the incident. While some sections reportedly had safety markers, other areas remained exposed, creating a risk for pedestrians and motorists passing through the area. 

The barangay immediately added sacks, barriers, and other safety measures around the open excavation sites to prevent similar incidents from happening again. 

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced that sanctions had already been imposed on the contractor responsible for the project. The agency stated that the contractor failed to install the necessary safety barriers and hazard warnings around the construction area.

The DPWH also directed the contractor to shoulder the victim’s medical expenses and provide compensation for the distress caused by the incident. A full investigation has been ordered to determine accountability and prevent similar incidents.
