Pres. Duterte Says Political Dynasty in Davao Not His Intention

DUTERTE – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte spoke on the “political dynasty” in Davao City where he and his children have served for several years.

Before becoming the president of the Republic of the Philippines, Pres. Duterte has served the people of Davao City for around 20 years. He is a former Davao City Mayor and Vice Mayor. When he ran for the presidency in 2016, his daughter, Mayor Inday Sara, succeeded him.

The President’s two (2) sons are also part of the local government in Davao City. His eldest son, Paolo, is the incumbent representative of the 1st District of Davao City while his youngest son, Baste, is the incumbent vice mayor of the city.

Mayor Inday Sara initially filed for re-election as Davao City Mayor but, after a few days, she withdrew her candidacy and run for vice president. Vice Mayor Baste who initially filed for re-election withdrew his candidacy as well as took the mayoralty race.

Recently, during the miting de avance of Hugpong ng Pagbabago in Davao City, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte spoke on the political dynasty in the city. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the 77-year-old Chief Executive expressed that it is not his intention to have a political dynasty in Davao City.

According to the President, he served as mayor of Davao City for several years and he and his daughter, Mayor Inday Sara, were just switching positions then. He stressed that he knows the feeling of running the government solo and it was not his intention.

Pres. Duterte went on saying that when he finished his terms as mayor of Davao City, he looked for someone who could replace him but the barangay captains want Mayor Inday Sara to be his successor. Currently, it is his youngest son, Baste, who is vying for the mayoralty position in their hometown.
