SANDRO MARCOS – The son of presidential aspirant and former Senator Bongbong Marcos spoke on the issue of “political dynasty” .
The May 2022 Elections is drawing near and it includes both local and national polls. One of the 10 presidential candidates in the upcoming election is former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. who is running under Partido Federal ng Pilipinas.
Marcos Jr. has ran for vice president in the 2016 elections but lost. Currently, he is leading the presidential race based on surveys results. Several national political parties have pledged support for his presidential candidacy.
The eldest son of former Sen. Bongbong Marcos, Sandro Marcos, is also running for a government position in the upcoming May 2022 Elections. He is gunning for the position of Ilocos Norte 1st District Representative.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Sandro Marcos will be challenging the re-election of Congresswoman Ria Christina Fariñas. The Marcoses and the Fariñas have long been rivals in the political arena in Ilocos.
According to the report, Sandro Marcos was asked about the issue of political dynasty. There are at least six (6) Marcoses who are running for a government position in the upcoming election. His cousin, Ilocos Norte Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc, is seeking for re-election and cousin-in-law, Ilocos Vice Governor Cecilia Araneta-Marcos, are both seeking for re-election in the upcoming poll.
Michael Marcos Keon is also running for the mayoralty seat in Laoag City while 2nd District Representative Eugenio Angelo Marcos Barba is seeking for re-election.
According to Sandro, on the issue of political dynasty, it is not for him or for anybody to decide citing that there is an “electoral process”. He stressed democracy saying it is up to the Ilocano people to decide. As for him, he is certain that he is ready to be in the Congress despite being the challenger of someone who is already in the position.
“I started working there [in Congress] in 2019 in the office of the Majority Leader which gives you an encompassing view of how the House works as a body and institution… So I think my past experience will prepare me for this,” the younger Marcos said.
