Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas Announces City Hall Employees to Adopt 4-Day Workweek Within 2 Weeks

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas announced that city hall employees will adopt the proposed four-day workweek.

On Thursday (March 17, 2022), Mayor Jerry Treñas announced that Iloilo City is set to adopt the four-day workweek proposed by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA).

Treñas said that the implementation of the proposed work hours in Iloilo City within two weeks. He made the announcement after NEDA chief and Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Karl Kendrick Chua made the recommendation.

Chua said that the shorten working days aims to conserve energy and let workers save some amount amid the surging prices of petroleum products due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The suggested timeframe will allow the city hall’s employees to adjust their schedules both at work and at home.

The city mayor also said that the local city government will look for other alternatives to conserve energy. He is planning to use the modern jeeps to ferry employees from plaza to city hall.

In order to help our employees cope with the present increases of fuel, the city will start adopting the 4-day work week as suggested by NEDA chief Karl Chua starting the week after next. This will give our employees time to adjust their schedules both in work and in their homes. We are also going to make use of our modern jeeps to ferry our employees from the district plazas to the City Hall and back every day. Other measures recommended for energy conservation will be seriously studied. Bátò Iloilo!

Meanwhile, the Palace announced that President Rodrigo Duterte will release the decision regarding the four-day workweek proposal on Monday (March 21, 2022).
