DILG Urges LGUs to Explain Over Slow Distribution of Odette Aid

DILG Seeks Explanation from LGUs Over Slow Distribution of Aid to Odette Victims

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) urged the local government unit (LGUs) to explain the slow distribution of aid to Odette victims.

During President Rodrigo Duterte’s Talk to the People, the DILG chastised local government entities for being tardy in distributing relief to typhoon Odette victims. Only 74.94 percent of help was provided to typhoon victims in December, according to DILG Secretary Eduardo Ao, who issued a show-cause order to LGUs that were delayed in delivering relief.

The DILG is already monitoring what the LGU is doing for the victims of typhoon Odette, according to Acting Presidential Spokesman Karlo Nograles. The LGU and its officials should explain to the DILG why the aid distribution has not yet been finished.

“Iyong mga LGUs na mabagal ay binigyan ng show cause order ng DILG for the LGU and their officials to explain to the DILG bakit hindi pa nila nakukumpleto ang pamamahagi ng ayuda,” said Nograles.

He said Malacanang will wait for the LGUs to explain themselves before the DILG takes action against local authorities for failing to send help to typhoon Odette victims. DILG will take additional actions after the show cause order, according to Nograles.

“So hintayin natin na dumaan sa proseso ng pag-e-explain ng mga LGU. So after the show cause order mayroon na pang ibang mga hakbang na gagawin ang DILG,” Norgrales added.
