Comelec’s Rowena Guanzon Officially Votes to Disqualify Bongbong Marcos

Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon Releases Vote on Marcos Jr. Case

COMELEC – Commission on Elections Commissioner Rowena Guanzon officially voted to disqualify former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

Currently, there is an internal issue in the Commission on Elections over the decision on the three (3) consolidated cases versus the presidential bid of former Sen. Bongbong Marcos. It was after Commissioner Rowena Guanzon spoke on the alleged delay of the release of a resolution.

Guanzon admitted her belief that someone is allegedly interfering in the issue thus the release of the decision was supposedly delayed. She also revealed that the ponente of the cases is Commissioner Aimee Ferolino. She gave her until Monday to release a resolution.

On her part, Ferolino claimed that they did not agree on a deadline for the resolution – Guanzon earlier claimed they agreed that it will be out by January 17. Amid the issues, Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon who is set to retire on February 2 released a “separate opinion” regarding her vote on the consolidated cases seeking to disqualify former Sen. Bongbong Marcos Jr.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon officially voted to disqualify former Sen. Bongbong Marcos from the presidential race. In a 24-page separate opinion, the Commissioner stated that the tax offenses of the presidential aspirant constitute “moral turpitude”.

Guanzon cited that Marcos Jr. had “repeated and persistent non-filing of income tax returns in 1982, 1983, 1984, and 1985”. She also stressed that the actions of Marcos Jr. caused harm to the public interest.

Previously, Partido Federal ng Pilipinas asked for the investigation of Guanzon following her statement. They also sought the forfeiture of her retirement benefits and lifetime pension. On the part of the Comelec Commissioner, she stressed that she is willing to be in poverty for fighting against the wrongdoings.
