The incident occurred at 3:00 p.m. yesterday, according to Corporal Rey Kevin Manuel of the Amadeo Police Station. At the victim’s establishment, the suspects sold him several boxes of Marlboro cigarettes valued P15,000.
When the victim realized the smokes were phony, it was too late, so he called the cops. Meanwhile, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) district office in this city incinerated contraband cigarettes worth P300 million yesterday.
Anti-smuggling operations in the Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi recovered more than 8,000 master cases of various cigarette brands, according to the BOC. The cigarettes were doused with water, crushed with a mechanized backhoe, and placed in a sanitary landfill in Barangay Salaan by Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) workers.
Many of the seized commodities were mislabeled as dried fish or junk food, according to BOC district collector Segundo Sigmunfreud Barte Jr. This achievement, according to Barte, would not have been possible without the constant support and effective coordination of our partner agencies.
