Watching K-Pop Leads To Public Executions According To Report
K-POP LEADS TO PUBLIC EXECUTIONS – A human rights group reported that at least seven people were publicly executed for watching K-Pop.
According to the Transitional Justice Working Group, the information was acquired after they interviewed around 700 defectors from North Korea. Furthermore, these people stated that North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong-un had several public executions.
And, the most common offenses were “watching or distributing South Korean videos”. Previously, Kim Jon-un called K-pop a “vicious cancer”. Moreover, he said that South Korea’s culture was corrupting the North.
As per the article, a Wilson Center senior fellow named Jean Lee said North Korea views South Korean content as a threat. ” He said that young North Koreans would see the life of South Koreans and how free they are after seeing images of Seoul.
Previously, North Korea sentenced a man to death after distributing a copy of Netflix’s Squid Game. Along with this, those who watched the show were sentenced to a lifetime of forced labor.
Meanwhile, the report also said families of those who had “offenses” were forced to watch the executions.
