Update on PH Travel Ban amid the Holiday Season
PH TRAVEL BAN – Eight (8) countries or areas are currently under the Philippines travel “red list” until December 31, 2021.
The detection of a new variant of COVID-19 has called for the tightening of the borders once again in some countries. The said new variant that was reported to be a “heavily mutated” variant of the virus was named by the World Health Organization (WHO) “Omicron”.
Omicron was first recorded in South Africa but several nations across the globe now have recorded cases of the said variant of concern. WHO previously warned countries about the said variant while studies and monitoring about its behavior are ongoing.
Several countries are currently implementing travel bans. One of these nations is the Philippines.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the PH travel ban “Red List” currently includes eight (8) countries or areas. The restrictions are up until December 31, 2021 on travelers from these nations:
- Andorra
- Northern Mariana Islands
- South Africa
- France
- Switzerland
- Monaco
- Reunion
- San Marino
Based on the report, only the returning Filipinos through the repatriated flights from the countries or areas included in the PH travel ban will be allowed entry to the country. They will still have to comply with the following:
- negative RT-PCR test taken 72 hours before departure from the country of origin
- facility-based quarantine until the release of negative RT-PCR test taken on the 7th day
- home quarantine until the 14th day
With regards to the travelers from “Green List” countries which include Hong Kong, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates (UAE), China, Japan, Kuwait, and Indonesia, the facility-based quarantine is shortened. The travelers will be under facility-based quarantine until the release of a negative RT-PCR test taken on the 3rd day. The home quarantine is until the 10th day.
