National Vaccination Drive To be Postponed in Some Areas due to Odette

Update on National Vaccination Drive Set for December 15-17

NATIONAL VACCONATION – The 3-day “Bayanihan, Bakunahan” will be postponed in some areas due to tropical depression Odette.

The Philippines is still in the midst of a crucial fight against the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Despite the easing of the protocols, the public is reminded to continue practicing the health standards including the wearing of face mask and the practice of social distancing.

Vaccination is also ongoing in the country. The national government is encouraging the public to get vaccinated in pursuit to achieve population protection against the virus. At least 70 million full vaccination has to be reached to get to population protection.

Different vaccine brands including Astra Zeneca, Pfizer, Moderna, Sinovac, Janssen, and Sputnik V arrived in the country. The healthcare workers, the senior citizens, and the individuals with co-morbidities were prioritized in the vaccination.

The vaccination of a certain bracket of the minorities also got a green signal from the health authorities. The giving of booster shots for the fully-vaccinated healthcare workers has also started.

Previously, a national vaccination drive was held. Initially, it was set from November 29 to December 1 but was extended in some areas until December 3. Around 10.2 million shots were administered during the said drive.

Another national vaccination drive is scheduled on December 15 to 17, 2021. However, a tropical depression named Odette was detected and the “Bayanihan, Bakunahan” will most likely be postponed in some areas.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III said that the changes may affect the roll-out of “Bayanihan, Bakunahan” in the regions of Southern Tagalog, Northern Mindanao, and Central and Eastern Visayas. It will be held on December 20-22, 2021 instead.

With regards to the vaccination drive in Calabarzon and Northern and Central Luzon, Duque expressed that it will continue on the originally set date. More updates may be posted soon.
