What is the side of Former Sen. Bongbong Marcos on Pres. Duterte’s Senate Bid Withdrawal?

BONGBONG MARCOS – The presidential aspirant and former Senator spoke on President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s withdrawal from the Senate race.

Recently, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced that Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte filed his withdrawal of his candidacy for senator in the Election 2022. He was supposedly running as a senatorial candidate under the ruling party PDP-Laban Cusi wing.

Initially, Duterte was set to run for vice president in 2022 after accepting the nomination of his party. However, during the filing of candidacy period, he did not file his candidacy for vice president but instead announced his plan to retire from politics. According to him, he will just go home to Davao City and prepare his response to the investigation of the International Criminal Court (ICC) on the anti-drugs campaign of his administration.

Before November 15, 2021, the deadline for substitutions, came, Pres. Duterte filed his candidacy for senator as a substitute to one of the senatorial candidates of PDP-Laban Cusi wing. It gained different reactions from the people.

However, recently, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced that Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte withdrew his candidacy for senator in the 2022 national elections. He personally went to the Comelec office in Manila to withdraw his candidacy.

The move of Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte to withdraw from the Senate bid in 2022 elicited different reactions from the people including the political aspirants in next year’s poll. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, presidential aspirant and former Sen. Bongbong Marcos Jr. said that the President “has achieved so much for the country in a short period of time”.

Meanwhile, former Sen. Bongbong Marcos Jr. has nothing but respect on the decision of Pres. Duterte not to push through with his Senate run.

“Although we welcomed with utmost gladness when he earlier filed his Certificate of Candidacy for senator, we respect the wisdom in his decision to withdraw his CoC,” the presidential aspirant said.
