Sen. Bong Go Officially Out from Presidential Race in 2022

BONG GO – The presidential aspirant and Senator officially withdrew his candidacy for president in the Election 2022.

During the period set by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for the filing of candidacy for the national and local polls in 2022, one of those who filed his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for vice president is Sen. Bong Go. He filed his bid under the PDP-Laban Cusi wing party.

However, when Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte withdrew her bid for re-election and moved to a national party, the Lakas-CMD, and substituted their vice presidential bet, the Senator decided to withdraw from the vice presidential race. He is very close to the President and his family.

Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte convinced Sen. Bong Go to run for president as it was vacant then. The 76-year-old Chief Executive pledged his support to him.

Go filed his candidacy for president. He even had a political TV ad with Pres. Duterte endorsing him and trusting him to continue what he has started in his administration. However, a few weeks after, the Senator admitted that he is struggling to cope with the fact of running for president.

The Senator admitted that he is not ready to run for president as it was really for the vice-presidential position that he was ready for. Shortly after, he announced that he is withdrawing from the presidential race in 2022.

After announcing his decision to withdraw his candidacy for president, Go did not right away make it official. There were calls for him to reconsider his decision and push through with his presidential bid.

Recently, based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Sen. Bong Go officially withdrew his candidacy for president in 2022. He is now out from the presidential race leaving the ruling PDP-Laban Cusi wing party with no standard-bearer in next year’s poll.
