Church Apologizes For Bishop After Saying Santa Isn’t Real

CHURCH APOLOGIZES – A Roman Catholic Diocese in Sicily apologized for its Bishop after he said that Santa isn’t real.

For many years, the Catholic church had always reminded its patron about the true meaning of Christmas. However, due to its popularity, most would instantly connect Christmas with Santa Claus.

As such, throughout the entire world, children patiently wait for Christmas time and behave so they won’t get into Santa’s naughty list. And, if they’re nice, they’d receive a present from the big man himself.

But, according to Bishop Antonio Stagliano, this wasn’t the “true meaning” of Christmas. During one of his homilies, Stagliano explained the story of St. Nicholas. And, to those who don’t know, St. Nicholas is said to be the inspiration for Santa Claus.

According to Stagliano, St. Nicholas was a bishop who gave gifts to the poor. But, he was persecuted by a Roman emperor. However, the Bishop was quoted saying Santa isn’t real.

Furthermore, he said that he was merely created by Coca-Cola, the biggest soda company in the world. As a response to this, diocesan communications director, the Reverand Alessandro Paolino said:

First of all, on behalf of the bishop, I express my sorrow for this declaration which has created disappointment in the little ones, and want to specify that Monsignor Stagliano’s intentions were quite different

Based on an article from News Sky, Paolino said that the church didn’t intend to demolish the imagination of children. Instead, he emphasized that the bishop wanted to set a good example.

He added that Santa Claus was supposedly a good role model to children that teaches the meaning of generosity and sharing. However, they added that Santa had since been made an agent of consumerism. “you see Santa Claus aka consumerism, the desire to own, buy, buy and buy again, then you have to revalue it by giving it a new meaning“, he added.
