Duterte and Pacquiao held a friendly talk
President Rodrigo Duterte met Senator Manny Pacquiao to discuss “certain matters” in a friendly meeting after their tirade against each other.
To recall, the rift between the two national government officials started when the Senator criticized the President regarding his policy on the South China Sea. The boxer-turned-politician also accused the Department of Health (DOH) of graft and corruption.
In his defense, PRRD said that he would call the Senator “liar” every single day if he cannot name any corrupt official.
On Wednesday, the rift between them appeared to have subsided. Based on the report from ABS-CBN News, Senator Bong Go was the one who requested the meeting of Duterte and Pacquiao.
Go said that it was a short talk and “renewal of friendship” between the two officials. “Walang politika. Important nagkausap sila ni PRRD. Kami naman ni Manny, kaibigan naman kami ni kumpare,” he said.
The camp of Pacquiao stated that a discussion of certain matters happened and it was concentrated on the development in Mindanao. “It is a meeting between national leaders who discussed certain matters related to people’s interest and Mindanao development. Specifically, infrastructure and power industry,” the camp of the presidential aspirant stated.
Manny Pacquiao is running for President in the 2022 election under a faction of the ruling party PDP-Laban. The faction under Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi kicked him out and has named Senator Ronald ‘Bato’ dela Rosa as their standard-bearer while Senator Bong Go is running for Vice President.
Meanwhile, following the announcement of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte that she has withdrawn her candidacy for mayor, Senator Go hinted about the changes that might happen in his candidacy. Prior to this, Senator Dela Rosa has expressed that he is willing to give way for the presidential daughter.
