The Bureau of Customs (BOC) issued a warrant of seizure for the sports car registered under actor Derek Ramsay.
After the Land Transportation Office (LTO) probed the Porsche 918 Spyder due to its alleged fake license plate, the supercar is now facing a warrant of seizure from the Bureau of Customs.
In a statement, Derek defended his side, stressing that he is not a smuggler. The actor maintained that he purchased the supercar in “good faith” and believed that all the necessary documents were in order. Derek also expressed his willingness to cooperate with the BOC, just as he did with the LTO amid a separate issue involving the vehicle’s alleged fake plate.
Now, his multimillion-peso Porsche 918 Spyder faces seizure proceedings after the BOC flagged an alleged misdeclaration when the luxury vehicle entered the Philippines in 2021.
During a discussion at a joint press conference of the BOC and the LTO on Monday, BOC Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno said the Porsche 918 Spyder was allegedly declared as a Porsche Boxster when it was imported from the United Arab Emirates.
According to Nepomuceno, the Porsche 918 Spyder could have been worth between ₱50 million and ₱100 million at the time. However, it was allegedly declared at only around ₱10 million. This resulted in a huge difference in the vehicle’s declared value and corresponding taxes and duties.
Nepomuceno described the case as a possible example of “technical smuggling,” stressing that the agency would investigate how the luxury vehicle came to be declared under a different model.
“Maraming mananagot dito. Malaki ang pananagutan dahil napakalaki din ng pagkakamali nung deklarasyon nito, dokumento at ‘yung pinagbayaran. Imagine, 1.8 million lang, minimum 35 minimum pesos dapat binayaran nito,” he said.
